Another Digression Post…
Yet another post quite unrelated to anime…well then again, I’m only following a few series currently namely, Bakemonogatari, Spice & Wolf II. Anyway, I’ve been playing Touhoumon while listen to some of the C76 Touhou Albums. While still “patiently” waiting for GSC’s Saber Lily Avalon figurine which has conveniently been delayed again it seems.

They even redesigned the character avatar - cool.
Excerpt:
According to Touhoumon ~Gensokyo~: Long time ago, Patchouli Knowledge grew tired of Marisa Kirisame coming and stealing her books. Therefore, she made some puppets with decent intelligence and power to keep the library safe. (She doesn’t believe in Hong Meiling at all) Unfortunately, one of the manuals has been stolen by Marisa and the thief herself made a lot of puppet for pilfering. When they came, Patchouli impatiently blew both armies of puppet and a part of the library away, included the remaining manuals. After the incident, puppets have been producing with a large amount and people got used to them. Time passes and they are now served like pets to everyone.
If your reaction to the above story is “What’s with that ridiculous storyline!?” , then obviously you’ve never played the actual Touhou Project. Or being part of the Touhou fandom.

What Is This Game?
It’s one of those hacked version of Pokemon, though this one is so elaborate it might as well be considered a fan made game in its own rights. Touhoumon, as it’s called, is based on the Pokemon Gameboy Advance series, version Fire Red. Basically, the only thing that has been changed is replacing all the Pokemon with Touhou characters. The starters are Chibi Reimu (Fire), Chibi Sakuya (Ice) and Chibi Merisa (Electric).

It is simply fabulous to train this elegant maid of mine.
Why I’m Playing this Game
Short answer: I’m bored. And it’s surprisingly amusing.
Long answer: Comiket 76 ended not long ago, has lots of nice Touhou Albums, new Pokemon game for the DS going to be out soon, exams just ended, needed something light to play so the “real” Touhou game is out – my eyes will hurt staring at all the beautiful-but-crazy-storm-of-bullet patterns… one thing leads to another… so TouhouMon.

A male variant!?
Seeing as how Touhou is essentially a world of estrogen, I was curious about how I’m going to obtain Egg Moves and stuff. That’s when a Wild male variant turn up – which is just not right. Then again, before that I was thinking of implied yuri actions by putting two of them at the daycare centre at one of the Island, not exactly right either. Nevertheless, for the sake of consistency, I’m going to catch only the female variants of the Touhoumon. So Yeah.

Oh yeah, she's totally evolved
Miscellaneous
i) I daresay that somewhere, someone is trying a 9 GET for Cirno’s ID number.
ii) Also, I wonder if there’s a doujinshi somewhere that chronicles this game; y’know like how Pokemon Adventures manga is based off the game. It’ll be frickin’ cool.
iii) A quick browse at the TouhouDex shows just how crazy the stats are compared to Pokemon. Sakuya EX has a base state of 110 for Def and Sp. Def, Chen EX has a base Atk of 100 and Chibi Chen is supposedly the equivalent of Rattata.
iv) Misty is now stronger than she used to be. The equivalent of Starmie here is a Water/Ghost type mon with Night Shade and Confuse Ray ( just to make sure if Water Pulse didn’t).
v) Oh wow, they even made Shiny variants (saw the screen shots at the Touhou board). Fancy that!

Now that it’s the hols, and C76 has just ended, I’m just in time to indulge in the albums and some other stuffs from it. Sonic Hybrid Orchestra’s Touhou Tempest IV is easily one of the really cool album to be released in C76 – a mix of Neo-Classical and Metal/Rock – awesome.

I didn’t think there would be traps in Touhoumon but it probably works out easier that way in the long run.
About the moves, I see there are different moves from the regular sets. Do they have custom animations or are they just renamed?
