First episode of the second season of The Tower of Druaga: The Sword of Uruk. Season1 was a highly enjoyable series, so I certainly look forward to Uruk. I’m a big sucker for RPG-ish settings, you know form Party, Questing, Magic and stuff, so Druaga was a great hit for me last year.
As much as I am looking forward to this series, I’m also rather apprehensive. Because of one simple reason: it’s by GONZO, infamous for screwing up endings. So infamous that series with poorly scripted conclusions get called the LOLGONZO end. I hope they don’t mess up this one. I’d rather they don’t try anything ambitious and just go for a cliche Hero kills Big Bad Boss ending. In RPG style of course. No exception. Heck, that’s the element that drew me into this series to begin with!
Can’t really comment much since it’s only the first episode, but it does look positive (well, GONZO’s productions generally look good for their first episode…). The remaining cast has become rather subdued, with the previous Army Captain now running a restaurant. Fatina seems to have entered the dere dere mode now. Also, pretty amusing to see the revelation of Ulta’s face beneath the set of armor. As for Gilgamesh, I’ll be expecting him to pull a “just as planned”, being the archetype who watches from the throne in the background.
One thing I really liked about Druaga: Aegis is its OP because of its catchy music and the gimmick featuring the cast being regular High School students and stuff in the animation sequences, similar to one of the Naruto Shipuuden ED — only with higher level of hilarity. Anyway, I sure am glad that they brought that back for Druaga: Sword, though I still prefer the song for season1.
And oh, we get to see an awesome dakimakura of Fatina, a great tribute to the parody filled episode 1 of season1, complete with the tentacles (fancy that !). Nice bit of marketing there.
