To be fair, I didn’t enjoy this episode that much, not because of the studio, but because of the manga’s materials.
As of episode 2, Okaeri was more of a “just alright, rather average” series — the ones I’d rate as no more than a 6.5/10. Thankfully, for ep2, there was salvation in a rather unexpected form: Chiaki being part of Hosaka’s gag. The DevilXAngel scene which most people were talking about were more of a miss for me: kinda killed off the ambiance. Yeah, I didn’t like the concept. I felt that it didn’t really play off well. I found the duality/mind conflict even more ludicrous when they have Fujioka joining in.
Though thankfully (if that is something to be thankful about) this blame doesn’t go to the studio but to the manga itself, since the Angel/Devil gag was from the manga itself and not some random additions from the studio. Hey, at least it’s not the studio’s fault this time round!
So far, “disgusting” Hosaka is the only reason I’m keeping this series and yeah, the last part of the series was the only part in this episode which I chuckled at. Apart from showcasing the trademark eccentricity of Hosaka, it also managed to show the rare instances of the so-called childish side of Chiaki.
