“Nice to see them referencing something else other than Star Wars” was what I wanted to say but…(see p.s. at the end of post — though I think you get what I’m driving at). Oh well, at least they did make a tribute to TLOTR. For that I am happy.
Got round to watching the recent episodes 6 and 7 of Sora Kake Shoujo.
True, this series is far from being considered a masterpiece. Nevertheless, it is pretty interesting so far though I thought that some of its potential got wasted. The only thing about this series that had me continue was Leopard. First, let’s kick out all those blatant nods to Geass and just limit it to purely within this series. Leopard is the star of the show. I’ll affirm to this even if I am not a Code Geass fan or have never watched Geass: Leopard’s personality is hilarious, what with his narcissistic side, being philosophical and all. This aspect in itself was already so engaging that it being a reference to Geass was more of the cake’s icing rather than the cake itself (like what many initially thought). Heck, I’ve seen many non-Geass fans enjoying this show. However, like I initially said, Leopard is all there is to Sora Kake. The other characters are well, the all-so-familiar archetypes that are practically trademarks of Sunrise. And they were uninteresting. Even if they were going for the generic archetypes, they should at least throw in some depths in their personalities. On the other hand, this series seems like a reverse-Hayate-no-Gotoku. I can’t help but to get the impression that Sunrise is deliberately playing on this fact for this series. I don’t just mean Leopard’s nod to Code Geass and Mai-Hime/Otome-ish elements. What with the ridiculously high concentration of Sunrise clichés and even overtly chessy dialogues (cheesy even by Sunrise’s standards), it really seem more like the studio is going for some sort of referencing, rather than just some random comedy. Maybe I’m just over-analyzing.
Not outstanding, but still pretty enjoyable so far. 7.5/10
p.s What the hell! Not again! overkill! overkill! That troupe is seriously overkill damn it!
Pity Nerval wasn’t voiced by Wakamoto though. Wait, let me take that back: thankfully, it ISN’T by Wakamoto.
p.p.s Woot! Haven’t been posting for quite a while!
