The brothers are back! *BroFist*
The first episode is a filler, but I guess they were just trying to do some sort of teaser, what with all the introduction of most of the characters – particularly with the Fuhrer, and the mentioning of that Ice Alchemist as being from Xing—some sort of over-arching. However, I still consider the first episode as being quite useless. A lot of fans weren’t happy with how they set a re-start button with Brotherhood and felt that the Studio could have just picked up from where the previous series deviated from the manga, but really, it’s not that possible because, well, in series1, they altered several scenes to begin with. Also, the re-set allows new fans to enter the show easily.
In short, didn’t mind the re-set, but I do mind the filler episode.
They are also being much more detailed with the back-story. I definitely preferred the way the manga’s version did Ed’s exam. It showcased not only Ed’s skills’ but also his character (and how powerful Bradly is) – which is very much relevant to the storyline, unlike in the first series which shows him saving the guy that’s all. Several bones (pun very much unintended) I have to pick with Brotherhood. First, the Opening Narration. I want Al back doing the catchphrase. Secondly, the comedy style – this one feels faked, I still like the way the comical scenes were done in the previous series.
Speaking of Al, it sure is nice to get to see (and hear) Rie Kugimiya not in a Tsundere role. Honestly, her talent’s gonna get wasted if she’s just type-cast into a mere one role. She does Tsundere roles well yes, but she can pull off other voices too. Certainly awesome that we have Romi Paku back as Ed, though on another note, I don’t quite like the VA for Roy Mustang. Oh yeah, can’t wait to see his fights with the Sins animated (and the most recent chapter had him pwning Envy- how fabulous is that! ). The studio better put in tons of effort for the fight scenes.
The OP by YUI is kickass. Looks like I’ve already found the song to spam for this season. The animation in the OP is a killer too.
Anyway, by the looks of it, Brotherhood is going to be fantastic and is (hopefully) being true with “following the manga more closely”.
