You look at your data output for your Econometrics assignment and is asked what does it suggest to you, your first thought is “hmm, looks like Easy Mode to me, there probably isn’t a need to Bomb”.
Anyway, a Touhou post to revive the blog with. Yes, the contents of this post is old news by now, but still it’s Touhou, so what the heck.
Touhou 12.8 – Fairy Wars
I started playing Touhou again! Of all the Touhou games so far, this one’s my personal favourite. For one thing, 12.8 has like the shortest routes compared to the others, so I can play through one route in one sitting without hurting my eyes. For another, I absolutely love the idea of being able to ‘charge’ and then Freeze all nearby bullets and chained them all. This in turn increases Cirno’s Motivation level – which is the equivalent of her Life points. On the other hand, this minor addition to game play and change in game structure actually made the Easy Mode of 12.8 somewhat more difficult than the Easy Mode of the others.
Oh, and as an added bonus, this one’s got better art quality too. Granted, ZUN’s not the one doing the art in this one.
Gensou Mangekyou ~The Memories of Phantasm
A little gem that came out from the recent C80 is this Touhou anime. Unlike the Maikaze’s which got professional voice-actresses, this one is entirely fan made and fan dubbed. As such, the voice acting was, understandably, not as fantastic – nevertheless, to give credit where it’s due, it is great considering it’s made by amateurs. In fact, disregarding the voice-acting, everything else is easily professional quality.
If there’s anything to complain, it would be that the danamaku scenes are too short. I can understand cutting off the scenes with the mook fairies, but it would have been fantastic if they at least extended the fights with Youmu and Yuyuko. The episode itself was already only about 16 minutes; it wouldn’t hurt to extend it so it’s as long as a standard episode length. With that said, the animation quality is excellent; loved how they actually took the effort to bring in the bullet patterns. Not to forget the ‘trailer’ of the Scarlet Mist Incident shown in the opening theme.
Lastly, you can’t talk about Touhou without mentioning the music. Needless to say, they got an awesome range of bgms and theme songs. They even included Cirno’ Lovestruck Tomboy and Sakuya’s Flowering Night.
