Battle Moon Wars – videos of cut scenes

Unlimited Blade Works, Fate/Zero, Fate/Extra and Carnival Phantasm (also Kara no Kyoukai which was not too long ago). Looks like this year is the year of TYPE-Moon, making this an appropriate time to bring back a rather old doujin game. For those who don’t already know, Battle Moon Wars is a tactical RPG done in the style of the Super Robot Wars franchise and is entertaining in how it brings in all the characters from various TYPE-Moon works and dump them all together. So we have another Grail War intersecting with the various plot points of the other titles.

In general, the posts aren’t exactly strategy guides; the main purpose is more of to show off the interesting cut scenes in the game, but I thought it would be too plain to just dump videos. Anyway, I’m basically just going to be putting more details and attention on Acts 3 and 4, as that is when things get really interesting. Acts 1 and 2 were well, not as intense, not facing off against powerful foes that often. Continue reading

Fate/Zero – Ep 01

I was drawn to ufotable only because of Kara no Kyoukai. I haven’t really watched much of the studio’s productions. Of the few I have seen, they were rather forgettable; not bad, but neither memorable. That aside, the first episode of Fate/ Zero certainly looks really promising and it resembles Kara no Kyoukai in more ways than one, which is a good thing I hope. At the very least, I already know that the music in this series will be (is) fantastic. Here’s to hoping an adaptation done right.

Now, of the series itself, well the frustrating thing about watching prequels is that sense of impending dread otherwise known as dramatic irony. You know who are going to win or lose – you can’t help but want to root for a certain character even if you know said individual is doomed to fail and as much as you hope another character to fail, you know it’s not in this one. On a concluding note: GILGAMESH!

Also, I look forward to GSC releasing that figurine of Saber on a motorbike.

The Alluringly Elegant Kuudere – a figurine review

Ryougi Shiki

Yes, this isn’t a newly released figurine, but since I just submitted it as an entry for the Play-Asia contest, I thought it would be a good opportunity to make a post about it. Without further ado, introducing Ryougi Shiki, the heroine from Kara no Kyoukai. This here is the Garan no dou version by GSC, as seen in the 5th movie. On one end, the other versions of Shiki figurines available are rather unremarkable. Yet on the other end of the spectrum, we have this absolutely gorgeous sculpture. Continue reading

[In-depth Review] Kara no Kyoukai

“Everything in creation has a flaw. Humans don’t even need not to be mentioned. Air, intent and even time… my eyes here can see the Death of things.”

Synopsis: After awakening from a 2 year coma, Ryouki Shiki discovers that a part of her, formerly her other personality SHIKI, has been replaced with hollowness. In addition to that, she has gained the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, an ability that allows one to see flaws of everything. Using her talents, she works for the mage Aozaki Tohko together with her friend, Kokuto Mikiya, in order to learn to control her ability, and to slowly fill the hollowness within her.
